‘This Heart of Mine’ is the second release as part of the ongoing music series
If you’re a fan of Nikhil D’Souza, his latest offering “This Heart of Mine” will remind you once again why the singer-songwriter is one of the best in India. And if you aren’t a fan yet, it will probably turn you into one in an instant. The song is released as part of the ongoing Nexa Music series presented by Maruti Suzuki in collaboration with digital media company Qyuki. D’souza is one of the four headliners on Nexa Music, alongside musicians Anushka Manchanda, Clinton Cerejo and Uday Benegal.
A comforting love ballad, “This Heart of Mine” is the second release on Nexa Music, following Manchanda’s banging electro-pop track “Queen of My Castle,” which released in March and garnered impressive social media nods and numbers. In the music video for “This Heart of Mine,” which is directed by Achint Bansal, D’souza is seen performing in a restaurant, even as a love story unfolds in front of his eyes – that of a young couple on a dinner date. Speaking about the mood behind the song, which is equal parts rueful and sanguine, the singer says, “I wanted to bring in the aspect of regret — the feeling of wanting to turn back time and go back into the past to change things around. That’s where the inspiration for me came from.” The song is composed by Bianca Gomes and Clinton Cerejo (who is also the producer on it), while the lyrics are written by Gomes and D’Souza.
Keeping with its commitment to put the spotlight on Indian artists that perform in English, Nexa Music also aims to showcase the diversity of genres through this project, involving headlining musicians that are known for their inimitable styles across rock, pop and acoustic. D’souza says the music series has gone a long way in empowering artists to explore newer audiences. “The coming together of Nexa Music and Qyuki in putting out an artist’s song on their platforms and giving it like a solid marketing edge has really helped.”
