Indo-British singer-composer and music producer Nikhil Paul George talks to us about what it was like working on the song “Fark Nahi Padta” from the black comedy crime thriller series Farzi, new projects and what he’s got planned for the future. Read excerpts below:

How has the start of 2023 been for you?

2023 is off to a rip-roaring start for me! The feedback from fans and critics for “Fark Nahi Padta” has been absolutely bonkers. It’s actually been great to see the hard work pay off and I’m really proud of what the team has been able to achieve so far. Additionally, I’ve been working on a few new projects that I’m excited about.

What was it like working on “Fark Nahi Padta” from Farzi?

Working on the song was like jumping into a pool of icy water — daunting at first, but once I got in there, it was invigorating! This was the first time I had ever ventured into singing this particular genre or style of music, so it was a bit of a challenge at first. However, with the help of the talented composers and producers Sachin-Jigar, I was able to really sink my teeth into the project, have fun, and bring something fresh and exciting to the table. Lyricist Priya Saraiya and rapper DRV were on point as well. Loved what Abhishek Singh and Romil Ved did on the programming and mix respectively too. It was also a great privilege to be working on a critically acclaimed ‘Raj & DK’ Amazon series with two amazing lead actors, Shahid Kapur and Vijay Sethupathy. It really does take a great set of collaborators to create something memorable. All in all, it was an incredible opportunity and I’m really proud of the end result.

What are you currently working on?

Right now, my team and I are working on a variety of projects, just a typical day in the life of a Bollywood music producer and singer. We have produced a new live show that I’m excited for fans to continue experiencing. I can’t say too much about some of the newer initiatives I’m working on though, but let’s just say it involves some of my other rather questionable skills that I’m still dubious about. The idea really is to learn, grow, expand, and share all this with others, and have fun whilst doing it!

One of the things that I’m really passionate about is mentoring and supporting new talent in the industry, so I’m also working on a few initiatives to help up-and-coming musicians and artists get their start. We will be releasing a new course soon to kick that initiative off. There’s so much potential out there, and I want to help pave the way for other artists. Additionally, we’re in the process of developing some exciting opportunities related to my expertise on the music production and media consulting front.

Finally, 2023 is the year when I release some of my homegrown independent music. We’re in production with some fantastic featuring collaborators at the moment for this project.

What’s next for you and what are your plans for the rest of the year?

Looking ahead, I’m really focused on building on the momentum we’ve been generating. We’re always open to new collaborations and interesting projects.

We’re aiming to achieve some specific and measurable goals but beyond that, I’m also really excited about the new projects and initiatives we’re working on. I think there’s a lot of potential for growth and innovation in the Indian music industry, and I’m really looking forward to being an ambassador for that. Of course, there will be challenges along the way, but I’m confident that with the support of my amazing team and the unwavering support of my fans, we’ll be able to achieve great things together.
