Nikhita Gandhi Jumps in For Acoustic Version of Singer-Songwriter Siddhant Bhosle’s ‘Din Aur Raatein’

When New Delhi singer-songwriter Nikhita Gandhi heard fellow Mumbai artist Siddhant Bhosle’s 2020 single “Din Aur Raatein,” she immediately messaged Bhosle to let him know that he had a new fan in her. “I was so happy to know that she had loved my song,” says Bhosle. The idea of recording a stripped-down acoustic version of the song was always on Bhosle’s mind and he thought of none other than his new fan to join him. He says, “Her voice just sounded perfect on this.”

Like the original version, Bhosle produced the acoustic track at Mumbai’s Gravity Studios while both artists recorded their vocal parts remotely. “We met for the first time at Gravity Studios for the [playthrough video] shoot,” says Bhosle. The song was mixed and mastered by Abhishek Ghatak while K.S. Abhishek co-wrote the Antara (Indian classical verse) parts. Both artists’ voices blend beautifully together on the track over Bhosle’s relaxed acoustic guitar picking.

“Din Aur Raatein” was born after Bhosle returned to Mumbai earlier this year from the U.S. after spending two years there honing his craft as a producer and songwriter. When the lockdown kicked in, Bhosle says, “I wrote down my thoughts and feelings, feelings that I know are shared by people around the world.” He adds, “The song attempts to capture the emotions of the hour by depicting the present as a fleeting moment, something that will surely pass.”

The track’s original music video, which was shot at his home by his sister, currently sits at a cool 181,000 views on YouTube at the time of publishing this article. “I had no idea how the song was going to be received by everyone but it got such an overwhelming response,” he says. Apart from Gandhi, he also found fans in playback singer Asha Bhosle (who has no relation to him), composers Sonu Nigam and Salim-Sulaiman and even actor Amitabh Bachchan. “All the amazing listeners kept sharing it and messaging me – as to how they have all instantly connected with the song,” he says.

Going forward, Bhosle – who is the son of playback singer Sudesh Bhosle – hopes to continue his style of mixing Indian instrumentation with pop production and also wants to focus on more collaborations. There’s more music coming out in Hindi and also a few English projects in the works too.
