Pop artist Nikitaa in her new video "Peter Pan."

At the start of the music video for Nikitaa’s new song “Peter Pan,” a new quest is received, straight out of a video game. The goal is to ditch the boy who never grows up for the much more confident Captain Hook character from the works of author J.M. Barrie. Added bonuses, according to Nikitaa are, “Clear skin, better sleep and Captain Hook (She sings later on in the song, “Even though he’s got one hand, at least he can use it well.”)

Nikitaa’s latest single – produced by Los Angeles-based artists dyye aka Daniel Yves Escalante and Peruvian-origin Caziel aka Salvador Moratillo – is all kinds of funny but true revelations about the kind of partners she would like. After all, the trap/pop banger starts off with the declaration that she’s got a “Ph.D. in red flags.”

In case her angst wasn’t clear enough, the artist drills home the message to Peter Pan – “Grow up” and don’t try to change her. A press statement describes how “Peter Pan” was inspired by taking a tongue-in-cheek approach to dating in Los Angeles and is “directly addressing a man-child she dated last spring.”

The song follows singles such as “On My Own,” “Scheming” and the 2022 Hindi-English (and Gujarati) song “Chup” and “Apsara,” also released last year. All of it ties into what Nikitaa terms as “goddess pop,” which has resolve at its center, even as it allows the artist to navigate a variety of emotions and moods and is linked to her conceptual universe known as Ether.
