‘I just got overwhelmed,’ bassist writes as reason for departure

Nine Inch Nails and Trent Reznor will have to find a new bassist for their upcoming tour: Eric Avery has left the band. “It’s been a tough call and I don’t know if it’s the right one,” Avery, a founding member of Jane’s Addiction, wrote in a Facebook post. “I really want to focus on my musical life here in L.A., on film work in particular.”
Avery toured with Garbage last year, and was among the rebuilt NIN lineup that Reznor announced in February. That constant road schedule took its toll on the bassist, which he acknowledged in his post. “I just got overwhelmed,” Avery wrote. “I just got home from a year of heavy travel with Garbage, the idea of leaving town for another year and a half, and with all the intensity that Nails demands . . . fortunately my friend Trent understands all this and appreciated my pulling the plug now instead of deep into 2013 and 14.”
Nine Inch Nails’Â next show is set for July 26th at the Fuji Rock Festival in Naeba, Japan. Their next U.S. appearance is scheduled for Lollapalooza in early August in Chicago. NIN have dates set through early November, when they are scheduled to play the Voodoo Festival in New Orleans, with more tour dates to come.
