With a couple of albums as well as a number of singles to his name, Goa-based musician Nitish Pires has now ventured into the world of filmmaking. The singer-songwriter has exclusively released the first sneak peek of his upcoming movie Dibba Dog on Rolling Stone India, through a music video with the heavy rock song “Bhaag,” which is also set to appear on the film’s official soundtrack.

Pires says, “The song summarizes the feel of the movie and suggests the characters, mainly the protagonists of the story, to run away from this situation which will destroy their existence.” He adds, “The film is about two middle-class Goan brothers who accidently and unwillingly are forced at gunpoint to become part of an underworld cartel. The story unfolds a gripping tale of twists, turns, thrills and the horror of an unknown situation.”

What was initially meant to be just a two-and-a half-minute music video ended up turning into a two-and-a-half-hour feature film. While conceptualizing the idea for a visual for “Bhaag,” Pires decided to turn it into a full-fledged movie. Having studied cinematography and post-production, the artist was capable of pulling it off. He says, “My friend Kumar Gautam helped me as a co-writer for the film.”

The song “Bhaag” itself is a fiery rock number with heavy distortion, riffs and a pulsating groove, while Pires’ steely vocals add to the ferocity of the track. The clip showcases the musician performing the song while snippets from the film are interspersed onscreen. This being the first look of the film, Pires says, “It’s a moment of pride for me, where I have a feeling of achievement and that nothing is impossible. I hope this film will inspire young musicians and filmmakers to become more independent to pursue their craft and art.”

With 10 songs recorded, the singer-songwriter plans to release one every month through 2023, while Dibba Dog will also release later this year. There’s even an India tour in the works. Pires says, “We are currently laying down the base work for the upcoming season of festivals starting from August.”
