Norwegian Metallers Leprous to Headline Mood Indigo’s Livewire in Mumbai

The band returns to India after five years, at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay’s annual cultural festival next month

The forthcoming quarter is set to bring more progressive rock and metal to India. Norwegian prog band Leprous are coming back to the country, to headline the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay’s Mood Indigo Livewire show on December 28th.

This announcement arrives on the heels of scheduled performances by American prog band The Contortionist at Bacardi NH7 Weekender in Pune on December 7th and Canadian prog auteur Devin Townsend’s solo acoustic shows in New Delhi and Mumbai on March 7th and 8th, respectively.

Leprous, for their part, return after five years, following their India debut at the 2013 edition of metal festival Bangalore Open Air, where they also performed as the backing band for black metal veteran Ihsahn. While that association ended in 2014 (although Leprous newest addition, guitarist Robin Ognedal, still performs as part of Ihsahn’s live band), the Norwegian band went on to find critical acclaim and prog fandom through albums such as The Congregation (2015) and their 2017 album Malina, which presented even more experimentation within the rock and metal space.

Vocalist-keyboardist Einar Solberg said in a 2013 interview, “That’s the thing with the band ”“ we have so many influences and it doesn’t have anything to do with genres. We take it [influences] out in our own way.”
