The village of Dambuk in Arunachal Pradesh may not have had electricity until a few months ago, but is now operating in full swing ”” and even seems to be celebrating with the second edition of music, camping and adventure sports festival OFAM [Orange Festival of Adventure and Music].

Held from December 15th to 18th in Lower Dibang Valley, Orange Festival is bringing a diverse lineup that includes blues, rock, electronica and more. Headliners for the three-day fest include Grammy-winning Tibetian Buddhist Monk Lama Tashi [whose claim to musical fame was an album of 12 popular Tibetian master chants] and American singer/songwriter Joseph Arthur.

Apart from hosting motorsports championship, high adrenaline sports like river rafting, dirt cycling, trail running and an obstacle course, OFAM will also feature a number of Indian independent acts such as Kolkata-based funk rock band Neel and the Lightbulbs and glitch rockers The Ganesh Talkies, bluesman Lou Majaw from Shillong, Mumbai-based electronica act Your Chin, and Meghalaya rockers Dossers Urge.

OFAM also sees active participation from the Dambuk locals, who””apart from attending the festival in large numbers””are also involved in production. Says festival director Abu Tayeng, “Most of the setup of the festival has been done by the locals. This festival is the first time we’ve seen so many visitors so it’s quite an experience for everyone. The locals are more than happy to open their doors to the visitors and there is a sense of curiosity and eagerness to understand each other which makes the festival what it is.”
