Overhung Ready Debut EP

Titled simply ‘Extended 4Play,’ the rock band from Mumbai kick off a crafty photo contest ahead of the EP launch

Published by

Mumbai-based rockers Overhung, with a soft spot for glam rock, have spent the past few months prepping their debut EP, titled Extended 4Play. The four-track EP is about “sex, parties and women as are most of our songs. Hence the band name,” says the band’s guitarist Howard Pereira.

Pereira explains the band came together two years ago when Mumbai rock band Kickstart Freedom vocalist Sujit Kumar wanted to start a side vocal project. Kumar convinced musicians Sheldon Dixon [Dream Out Loud], Melroy Coelho [Dog Ate Disco, Dream Out Loud] and Pereira [Dischordian, Depth] to start Overhung. After playing their debut gig at Mumbai’s Hard Rock Café in 2010, Overhung got to work on new tunes. “After a few gigs here and there, we finally got down to writing some material and had five songs ready in a few weeks,” says Pereira. Besides their originals, the band plays covers like Beastie Boys’ “Fight For Your Right To Party,” “Crazy Bitch” by Buckcherry and “South Indian Boy,” by Dream Out Loud.

Though the band has been fairly inactive since their first gig, Pereira says they have been busy with their own bands and busy recording at producer Ayan De’s Midicore Studios in Andheri. Post the EP’s release, Overhung plan to begin a launch tour.

Extended 4Play  is scheduled to release on September 10 and will be preceded by a cheeky contest for fans. The band is inviting fans to click self portraits in T-shirts that will be uploaded onto their Facebook page. The photo with the most number of likes/shares will make it to the CD jacket. “The idea is to create some buzz around the EP launch and to create an interesting keepsake that people will remember,” says Pereira.

Here’s the tracklist of Extended 4Play

Waiting”

“Waste”

“You think You’re So Cool”

“Casual Bitch”
