Paal Dabba and Sickflip Match Dancefloor Energies on ‘Vibe’

The Tamil artist fires off quick verses over tropical beats from the Mumbai producer

Mumbai-origin DJ-producer Sickflip and Tamil hip-hop artist Paal Dabba prove just how versatile they can be on an unlikely collaboration “Vibe,” released via theGameface Asia.

With a playful music video in which Sickflip’s DJ decks are mounted on a moving vehicle with Paal Dabba joining the artist, the Tamil rapper delivers rapid-fire verses about his notoriety and stature in music right now. Sickflip, for his part, samples the music from a memorable ad jingle for a beverage brand, soaking up the tropical, Caribbean sound.

Sickflip tells Rolling Stone India, “Beats that sound tropical, breezy melodies and Paal’s energetic vocals  are the key elements of our song ‘Vibe.’ We aimed to create a funky summer banger and can’t wait to see you groove to it!”

According to Paal Dabba, he and Sickflip simply found a middle ground that clicked. “It’s always an incredible experience working with an artist as creative and passionate as Sickflip and creating something that is loved across the nation—that feeling is intangible.”

Sickflip has been known to craft a few songs with hip-hop artists, most notably working with New Delhi duo Seedhe Maut on “Roshni” in 2021 and Kaam Bhaari on “Nacho Re” and “White Collar.” For the first time, he was working with a Tamil rapper. The producer says, “This track is proof that when two artists with different styles come together with the right energy, magic happens! Paal Dabba’s raw delivery combined with my production pushed us both to new creative heights.”

Paal Dabba, who opened the year with his single “X” and also worked with composer Anirudh Ravichander and singer-composer G.V. Prakash for “God Bless U” from the Tamil actioner Good Bad Ugly, says his collab with Sickflip “was totally unexpected.”

He adds, “When Vibe came my way, I knew it was something different. I’ve never really done a track like this before, but that’s what made it exciting. It challenged me in the best way. Big love to everyone who made this happen. This is only the beginning, and I’m hyped for what’s next!”
