A new indoor music gig — LiveBox Festival — will bring in Indian independent music favorites Parekh & Singh from Dubai/Kolkata, New Delhi artists like Peter Cat Recording Co. and Raman Negi, Chennai jazz-rock act Jatayu and rock act Space Is All We Have to Bengaluru on July 16th. Organized by ticketing and event platform Skillbox, LiveBox Festival will set up at The Lalit Ashok hotel, with tickets currently selling at ₹1,499.
The gig will mark performances by dream-pop duo Parekh & Singh – who are returning to Bengaluru after a few years – and the live city debut of Raman Negi, formerly of Hindi rock band The Local Train. While Peter Cat Recording Co. are chipping away at new material, Jatayu are working their way up to their first international tour, crowdfunding for performances at Live At Heart festival in Sweden and Kansai Music Conference in Japan starting August. Local reps Space Is All We Have, who released their debut album Thank You, Universe! In 2020, will bring arena-level rock energy to LiveBox Festival.
The LiveBox series has so far been a touring property for Skillbox, which has taken artists like The Yellow Diary, Hanumankind, Arjun Vagale and Sickflip to different parts of India. Skillbox’s business head for Live IPs and tours Amarjeet Singha says, “The idea of LiveBox is a traveling music IP. We wanted to scale up LiveBox and not just keep it to the clubs. Hence the plan of doing a day-long festival came up featuring a solid lineup. We also plan to take the festival version to multiple cities over the coming months, while we continue doing the LiveBox club shows with Indian and international acts.”
It’s not the first festival hosted by Skillbox, however. Earlier this year in March, arts and culture festival Bloomverse was launched in Guwahati, with a focus on artists from the North East. Meanwhile, at least two or three more LiveBox festival editions will take place in different cities through 2022, according to Singha. The festival series also reinforces the crowd puller power of a wholly Indian lineup. Skillbox counts it as a good sign for things to come. “It is a great sign, with so many new acts entering the live ecosystem as well where they can draw a good number of crowd,” he adds.
