The New Delhi rock veterans team up with Kolkata’s Free School Street Records for ‘Parikrama – Live at Mahindra Independence Rock 2022,’ releasing on April 20th

Among Indian rock’s mainstays, Parikrama haven’t been much for releasing music until recent times, when singles such as “Tears of the Wizard” and in January this year, “Life Is Certain” began rolling out. Co-founder and organist Subir Malik has often harked back to times when they encouraged fans to bootleg their music through the various popular mediums in their 33-year career.

For Record Store Day 2024 – on April 20th – Parikrama will release their first-ever vinyl, a live album comprising their best songs performed at the comeback edition of rock festival Mahindra Independence Rock in November 2022 in Mumbai. Parikrama – Live at Mahindra Independence Rock 2022 is a deluxe limited edition vinyl being released by Kolkata’s Free School Street Records. Pre-orders commenced on March 30th, with the vinyl priced at ₹2,500.

A press release from Free School Street Records, who have previously pressed fellow Indian rock legends Indus Creed’s album Evolve on vinyl, says, “The audio of the deluxe hand-numbered limited edition LP has been mastered from the original multi-track recording and is pressed on audiophile grade, virgin, golden yellow vinyl from a reputed pressing plant in Europe.”

Side A of the vinyl features songs like “In The Middle,” “Rhythm and Blues,” “Xerox,” “Am I Dreaming” and “Tears of the Wizard. Side B includes “But It Rained,” “Open Skies,” “Vapourize” and “Whiskey Blues.”

The LP package also includes an eight-page colored booklet with liner notes, lyrics, a concert review and photos and a replica of the handwritten setlist of the concert personally autographed by the band. The first 100 pre-orders of Parikrama – Live at Mahindra Independence Rock 2022 will also receive a band poster. Elsewhere, buyers also get a Redwolf discount coupon with 20 percent off on purchase of Parikrama t-shirts.

The label is also partnering with vinyl platforms and sellers in India to mark Record Store Day and the release in a grand way. A launch event for the LP will take place on April 20th at Zee’s Coffeeshop in Kolkata, followed by a vinyl listening session of the Parikrama LP as well as other LPs put out via Free School Street Records, including The Savages – Live, Indus Creed – Evolve and Arinjoy Trio – Arinjoy Trio.

In Mumbai, Drocer Record with Free School Street Records will host a launch and listening session for the vinyl during their Record Store Day celebrations on April 20th at Cirqa 1960 and on April 21st at Bengaluru’s Record Room.

Beyond the vinyl listening experience, Parikrama will next be seen live at the newly-launched Jingle Land festival in Bengaluru on June 8th.
