Park plays Lee Gyeong-do in this rom-com drama, centered on his relationship with his ex-girlfriend and how an occurrence seasons later draws them together
Park Seo-joon makes his K-drama comeback following his starring role in Gyeonseong Creature (2023–2024). This new project, Waiting for Gyeongdo, is Park’s return to the realm of rom-coms, building on the legacy he has established with memorable romantic roles in his previous works such as She Was Pretty (2015), Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (2016–2017), Fight for My Way (2017), What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim (2018), and Itaewon Class (2020).
Waiting for Gyeondo underpins how unpredictable relationships can be—via its two lead characters and the complexities they share, experiencing the highs and lows of falling in and out of love, only to find themselves drawn to each other again in a trying situation—a vivid portrayal of the fluctuating dynamics of their lives as they wrestle with emotions and its events.
Park plays the titular character, Lee Gyeong-do, an entertainment journalist. He’s just a regular guy doing his job and leading a routine life. When it comes to his love life, he has had an on-and-off relationship with Seo Ji-woo, whom he met years ago in his twenties. They were in love not once but twice, sharing a passionate affair each time before parting ways. But strange are the ways of life. It has its unique ways of treating people and surprising you in the most unexpected ways. Gyeong-do, currently covering a scandalous story, runs into Ji-woo again as her husband happens to be implicated in the case. And call it serendipity or destiny, the former lovers reconcile, promising a story to swoon over.
Won Ji-an is expected to take on Seo Ji-woo if she confirms her appearance in the drama. Won, known for her earlier performances in D.P. (2021-2023), Heartbeat (2023), and Squid Game Season 2 (2024), will share the screen with Park as a fresh on-screen couple, giving viewers something major to look forward to in Waiting for Gyeondo. Park Seo-joon’s magic lies in the way he brings life to the most intimate and captivating scenes. In a single shot or scene, he can convey a range of emotions, especially subtle nuances that make a romantic moment memorable. His role in this drama will be pivotal in how that plays out with Won Ji-an.
Waiting for Gyeondo appears to be an evolving and appealing story through a deft blending of heartfelt drama and strokes of humor, moving fluidly between poignant moments of sorrow and fun, lighthearted exchanges that highlight Gyeong-do and Ji-woo’s camaraderie and the complex yet relatable nature of human relationships.
