What’s Next for Park Seo-joon? Here’s a Look at His Upcoming Projects

The actor will star in ‘Waiting for Gyeongdo’ and is reportedly having a lead role in ‘I Am a Sinner’ and a cameo in ‘Bloodhounds 2’

Following the success of his historical mystery horror series, Gyeongseong Creature (2023-2024), the Chungmuro actor and Hallyu star Park Seo-joon is poised to appear in a slew of highly anticipated new dramas. Though details are still scarce, what’s particularly intriguing is that his new slate of roles will see him explore darker, more villainous roles in a way we haven’t quite seen before. Here’s what we do know so far:

Waiting for Gyeongdo

Waiting for Gyeongdo follows the titular Lee Gyeong-do (Park Seo-joon), a regular guy working as an entertainment journalist with a complicated love life. He’s been in an on-and-off relationship with Seo Ji-woo (Won Ji-an) since their twenties, marked by two intense romances that eventually fizzled out. Their story takes a new turn when Gyeong-do’s investigation into a scandal leads him to Ji-woo’s husband, unexpectedly reconnecting the former lovers.

Directed by Im Hyun-Wook, who’s known for hits like the revenge melodrama Reflection of You (2021) and the romantic comedy King the Land (2023), Waiting for Gyeongdo is his upcoming rom-com drama, expected to release this December.

I Am a Sinner

Park Seo-joon is reportedly going dark with his next role as Park Eon-jin, aka Paengi, in I Am a Sinner. Paengi’s character is complex and hellbent on revenge after a traumatic event turns his life upside down. He enters the dark world of narcotics and, with his calculative mind, rises through the ranks, sparking conflicts and manipulating situations to his advantage. He’s ruthless and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. While the release date is yet to be announced, this underworld crime drama—based on a webtoon of the same name—is a serious departure from Park Seo-joon’s usual rom-com roles.

Bloodhounds 2

While Woo Do-hwan and Lee Sang-yi reprise their roles as boxers and Rain joins the cast as the bad guy in Bloodhounds 2, Park Seo-joon is also reportedly making a cameo this season. The first installment of this webtoon-based drama, directed by Jason Kim and released in 2023, follows Kim Geon-woo (Woo Do-hwan), a young boxer who finds himself entangled in a world of loan sharks. With the help of Choi Tae-ho (Huh Joon-ho), a moneylender, and Hong Woo-jin (Lee Sang-yi), another boxer, Geon-woo sets out to take down a ruthless loan shark organization that has a grip on his mother’s life. The series is an intense drama filled with moral gray areas, tough battles, and unexpected friendships. And now, with Rain on board as the villain and Park Seo-joon’s special appearance, season 2 might be even more intriguing. Expected to release later this year.
