Paul McCartney urged Oasis’ perennially feuding brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher to stop looking back in anger and give music another shot: “My advice to them? Just get together and make some good music,” McCartney said during an online Q&A with Japanese fans. “But they have got to want to do it. I think a lot of people would like them to do that. They are pretty cool guys.”

The former Beatle stopped short of urging a full-on Oasis reunion and seemed aware that the Gallagher’s long, strange feud ”” their latest spat involves everything from phony reunion rumors to One Direction burns ”” might be too much to overcome.

“I don’t know if they will ever make up,” McCartney said. “It would be good because I think everyone likes brothers to like each other ”” and make up. It’s a pity because they are very good together. Like many brothers, they are crazy. But it would be nice if they got together.”

The Gallagher brothers have been taking verbal and literal shots at each other since Oasis’ early days, and tensions haven’t eased since the band broke up in 2009. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Noel slammed Liam for pretending he was at a recent High Flying Birds show after he tweeted a picture of a backstage pass that belonged to their other brother along with the sarcastic caption: “Keeping it in the family.” Noel also suggested that Liam, or someone close to him, had anonymously planted a rumor in the UK press about an Oasis reunion.

“It’s always left to me in an interview to let the kids down,” Noel said. “People say, ‘You’re breaking these kids’ hearts.’ Well, what the fuck, man?”

Liam, in turn, denied his brother’s claim on Twitter and proceeded to blast Gallagher’s new album with the High Flying Birds, especially its use of the saxophone, which he called, on numerous occasions, a “SAXAPHONE.” Ever the contrarian, Liam jumped to the defense of One Direction ”” whom Noel had criticized in his Rolling Stone interview ”” tweeting, “Hey NG leave those 1d kids alone.”
