In the late Nineties, when DJ Pearl began her career, the country’s dance music scene was not what it was today. There was little money and almost no access to the technology that powers shows today. Few DJs had access to vinyl and Pearl Miglani’s love for it, which began with her parents’ collection, continued well into her DJing days. She would often be seen carting her heavy, extensive collection of vinyl to every gig, clearly intent on providing her audience with more than just a rookie pitch blend.

Miglani has come a long way since then, her brand of funky, tech sounds and electro beats leading her to performances at some of the best clubs in the world including Ministry of Sound in London and Pacha in Ibiza. The Mumbai-based DJ can now add Global Gathering at Stratford-upon-Avon, UK, to that list. Held during the last weekend of July every year, Global Gathering, which kicked off in 2001, has built a reputation as a cult dance festival, with international editions held in the US, Ukraine, Poland, Russia, Belarus and South Korea. DJ Pearl will perform at the BBC Essential Radio 1 stage alongside electronica greats such as Hamburg-based deep house producer Tensnake, UK-based producer Pete Tong and Stockholm-based house producer Eric Prydz. Says Miglani, “I haven’t been to Global Gathering before, but it’s been on my list of festivals to experience for a while now ”“ and this just from all I’ve heard about it. A few years ago, I wouldn’t have put festivals at the level of importance that clubbing should have, but they now bring people into the fold of our music, at a never before scale.”

For her performance at Global Gathering, the artist will showcase her signature confluence of styles, mixing everything from techno to trance. Says the artist, “It all depends on the crowd, the atmosphere and the direction I’ll take when I play there. I do have a few recent favorites but I can’t really predict whether they will all find a place in my set.”
