Premiere: Mumbai’s Perp and Varun Agnihotri Are On and Off in ‘Easy Come Easy Go’ Video
The singer-songwriters gently and miserably go through the motions of a relationship in their latest duet
Mumbai singer-songwriters Perp aka Urmila Sivadas and Varun Agnihotri pair up in more ways than one for the music video to their latest song “Easy Come Easy Go.”
A tender, confessional song that approaches the ennui of relationships in the times of modern dating, “Easy Come Easy Go” comes with a music video directed by filmmaker Shivang Monga that takes viewers through the ups and downs of a couple. The song — released via Mumbai label Robach Music Group — is the artists’ third collaboration together, following the release of singles like “Best Friend” in 2022 and “Weatherman” featuring singer-songwriter Tiana Tara in January this year.
Perp says in a statement about working with Agnihotri, “This release holds a deeply special place in our hearts as the songwriting process was nothing short of a natural flow of creativity. The lyrics carry significant meaning to us, and we made a conscious decision to craft a simple vocal melody without overwhelming instrumentation.”
From bursting balloons to frustrations spilling over, there are a few visual metaphors that make “Easy Come Easy Go” an engrossing listening and viewing experience, coupled with the video’s seemingly one-take like presentation. Perp says that lyrically, the song puts into words the “essence of our current era” where “everything seems to effortlessly work itself out” and thus creates a “diminishing sense of preservation and value” towards so many aspects of life, one of them being relationships.
Agnihotri adds in a statement, “Today, connections are made and broken with ease, and the allure of constant novelty or FOMO tempts us to be everywhere at once – the song explores how this ‘easy-come-easy-go’ culture may impact the true worth of our endeavors.”
