The Goa-based act travel across North America, Europe with Texan trio Khruangbin and will close the year with India shows
Indian alternative act Peter Cat Recording Co. have announced their new album BETA and with it, a 77-date Good Luck Beta Tour through North America, Europe and India that starts in August and ends in December.
One of the biggest international tours by an Indian rock band, Peter Cat Recording Co. will release the album’s first single – “People Never Change” – on May 16th, with BETA releasing in full on August 9th via American label and film studio Muddy Water.
While their tour dates supporting Texas act Khruangbin (no strangers to India themselves, having performed a few times) on the A La Sala tour through the U.S. in August and Europe starting October 31st until November 24th had been previously announced, Peter Cat Recording Co. are also part of the upcoming Ohana Festival in California on September 29th. The band will share the stage with the likes of rock favorites including Pearl Jam, Alanis Morissette, Idles and more at the festival. The remainder of the shows, which span over 55 cities and top venues across the world, are headline shows.
Peter Cat Recording Co.’s India tour comes after all their international commitments, with the Goa-based band performing open-air shows in Pune on December 14th, in Goa on December 15th, in Mumbai on December 20th, at their hometown in Delhi NCR on December 22nd, in Bengaluru on December 28th, wrapping up the Good Luck Beta tour in Kolkata on December 29th. Public ticket sales begin May 16th, 10 am local time.
BETA is the follow-up to Peter Cat’s 2019 album Bismillah, which gave us songs like “Floated By” that has nearly notched up a million YouTube views. A press release explains that “each release thus far has served as a temporal snapshot, capturing the members’ personal evolution since their last offering, a painting of the living and the lived.” BETA is recognized as their third album, one that brings in influences from the band members becoming part of families. The band says in a statement, “BETA is a collection of stories about the future told 50 years in the past, to make sense of the present, on our only home, planet Earth.”
The band has produced the album and specifically, multi-instrumentalists Suryakant Sawhney aka Lifafa, Kartik Pillai aka Jamblu, Dhruv Bhola aka Bowls, and Peter Cat Recording Co. More details about the tracklist and probable music videos are expected.
A press release also explains how the title of the album came about, “BETA was one of five album titles that could have been. They wrote down all five, put them in a hat, and let the drummer Karan Singh’s six-month-old son reach in and pick. Serendipitously, BETA emerged. The album will feature the band’s distinctive “amalgamation of indie, bossa nova, jazz, psychedelic, and more,” the release adds.
