The first annual metal edition of the crowdfunded gig series drew a packed house in Mumbai, featuring performances by top acts from Mumbai, Delhi and Pune

How many indoor metal shows last nearly eight hours and never see a dip in attendance or energy levels? That’s the marvel of annual crowdfunded gig series Control Alt Delete’s first ever metal edition, which featured eight bands performing at Mumbai’s Blue Frog. The name-your-price gig drew in audiences not just from Mumbai and its surrounding cities, but also from Indore, Sangli, Nashik and Bengaluru, to catch performances by bands such as Delhi tech/groove metallers Undying Inc., Delhi post-hardcore band Grammy Winning Effort, Pune experimental metal band Noiseware and Mumbai acts such as death grind band Gutslit, death metal band Reptilian Death [RD], groove metal band Providence, thrash/death metal band Devoid and thrash/groove metal act Zygnema.
It was one crowded ride from start to finish, with Reptilian Death playing what would be their last show for a while, with members concentrating on their respective projects from hereon ”“ drummer Sahil Makhija, guitarist Nishith Hegde and bassist Ashwin Shriyan will tour UK and Europe with extreme metal band Demonic Resurrection, while vocalist Vinay Venkatesh is plotting his metal band Bhayanak Maut’s upcoming third full-length album. While Grammy Winning Effort made new fans with their post-hardcore sound and vocalist Dayus Madhan’s jokes about being gay for metalheads, Providence jammed with former vocalist Karan Pote and RD vocalist Venkatesh on American metal band Slipknot’s “People = Shit” and “The Heretic Anthem.” Collaborations spilled over into Devoid’s set as well, when former bassist Frank Pawar joined the band to perform songs from their debut full-length album, A God’s Lie.
Noiseware, who were playing in Mumbai after a year, and Undying Inc., who last played in Mumbai in 2010, drew in the biggest crowd who spent no time standing still. Even regulars on the local circuit such as Gutslit and Zygnema brought the house down with heavy sets.
