When Mumbai electro-pop act Shaa’ir and Func took stage on Day 1 of the Jadhavgadh Music Festival, they demonstrated once again what it is that makes them a tough act to follow. Whether they’re performing at Glastonbury Festival in Britian, Sakifo Musik Festival on Reunion Island, or smaller gigs in the country – the four-piece band power through their shows with limitless energy, which made their set the high point this weekend.

The second edition of the Jadhavgadh Music Festival, held on the sprawling lawns of Fort Jadhavgadh, Pune, consisted of a number of noteworthy performances and an impressive turnout. Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Geetu Hinduja played a stripped down set including compositions such as “Hope, Faith, Time & Me,” “Athmashatakam,” and also threw in a cover of Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made For Walking.” Pune-based rock group Atul Ahuja & The Band won over the crowd with a series of covers including U2’s “Where The Streets Have No Name.”

Bengaluru fusion band Swarathma also played a charged set comprising tracks such as “Ee Bhoomi,” “Naane Daari.” As he is often known to do, lead vocalist Vasu Dixit stepped off stage to mingle with the crowd. New Delhi’s rock veterans Parikrama performed most of their hits including “Am I Dreaming,”  “Whiskey Blues” and a version of “Open Skies” that featured impromptu jams and solos by keyboardist Subir Malik and violinist Imran Khan.
