The American pop/hip-hop star made a dazzling India debut on Saturday, performing to reportedly 25,000 people
The past weekend stood witness to some of the biggest international artists performing in India.
Atlanta rapper Offset made a brief but memorable appearance at a rainy SteppinOut Music Festival in Bengaluru, which also included performances by DJ-producer Steve Aoki. In Gurugram, EDM frontrunner Hardwell brought his Rebels Never Die tour to the capital. Grammy-winning sitarist-composer Anoushka Shankar kicked off her India tour in Bengaluru. Electronic stalwarts like Four Tet returned to Magnetic Fields Festival in Rajasthan, and these are performances just off the top of our minds.
All of Mumbai, though, was undeniably in praise of an exceptional performance delivered by American pop/rap star Post Malone, who made his India debut at Feeding India Concert, which was produced by BookMyShow at Mahalaxmi Race Course. Flanked by a heavy-hitter lineup that included everyone from pop artist Ananya Birla to EDM artist KSHMR to singer-producer Ritviz, singer-songwriter Anuv Jain and several others, Malone was the one that Mumbai was waiting for, with reportedly 25,000 in attendance.
Arriving from Bahrain on the back of releasing his album Twelve Carat Toothache, Malone’s 90-minute set included songs like “Wow.,” “Congratulations,” “Better Now,” “I Like You” and mainstays like “Rockstar.” He also dipped into a bit of “Sunflower,” the billions-streamed hit from the soundtrack to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse featuring Swae Lee. Another surprise came as he invited composer Hardik Desai on stage, after spotting a sign which asked if he can play “Stay.” Malone and Desai not only jammed on “Stay” and got a selfie together, but the Indian artist even got the U.S. star to say “Kya bolti Mumbai?”
