The fourth edition of the gig series, which was also the RSMA pre-gig in Bengaluru, hosted five hours of nonstop thrash metal

When Bengaluru folk metallers The Down Troddence’s frontman Munz aka Mithun Raj leads a chant, it’s no ordinary fist-in-the-air sing along. The 400-odd crowd that had turned up at Indigo Live Music Bar in Bengaluru for the Rolling Stone Metal Awards pre-gig were shouting “Beef! Beef! Beef!” with Munz as the band built up to their song “Muck Funmohan.” At the fourth special thrash metal edition of gig series Insurrection, organized by event management company Sound Awake, The Down Troddence might have been the odd one out for not being a thrash band, but the band had the advantage of playing on their home turf and brought out set staples such as “Death Vanity,” “Nagavalli” and “Shiva,” off their debut 2014 album, How Are You? We Are Fine, Thank You. Mumbai modern thrash metallers Sceptre, one among five other thrash bands who took to the stage that night, also took aim at politicians during their set at Insurrection.
After pre-gigs in Jaipur and Delhi, the RSMA pre-gig in Bengaluru was an unrelenting thrash attack, featuring thrash veterans Threinody [previewing material from their upcoming album The Toxic Age], melodic death/thrash metal band Neolithic Silence, Thiruvananthapuram thrash band Chaos [whose frontman S. Jayakrishnan aka Jaaga was in high demand, jamming with TDT and Threinody], heavy metallers Abaddon and Cherthala, Kerala-based thrash metal band Amorphia.
Up next, the road leads back to the Rolling Stone Metal Awards at Blue Frog, Mumbai on March 22nd, which includes the Mumbai debut of prog metal bands such as Delhi’s Colossal Figures and Mumbai-based band The Minerva Conduct, along with headline sets by Bengaluru thrash/death metal band Inner Sanctum and Pune metallers Abraxas.
