Last week, Tuesday [June 21st] became the red-letter day for musicians across India and the world, to mark the occasion of World Music Day. Apart from the musicians themselves who released songs and milked trending social media hashtags, music venues were a happy lot what with a weekday rush. Kolkata marked World Music Day at the Gateway Hotel’s club venue SIN featuring 15 artists across the spectrum of electronica, folk, rock and jazz.
The show, which ran on well into 2am, included performances by veterans such as Skinny Alley, Bangla rock favorites such as Fakira, classical guitarist Biplav Singh, jazz band Arinjoy Trio, rap rockers Underground Authority and fusion duo Sukanti and Anushree, among others.
