If there was ever such a thing as a festival hangover, everyone who attended the third edition of Ziro Festival of Music in Arunachal Pradesh knows the feeling. Hosted across four days this year, Ziro drew about 3,000 people. Wisely, the organizers decided to open up the festival for free on Day 1, which allowed audiences to catch acts such as Gurgaon electro duo Maya Moh + MuteVerb, folk/jazz act the Omak Komut Collective [who still pulled together despite frontman Omak Komut taking a leave of absence for personal reasons], post punk band The Vinyl Records and Delhi alt rockers menwhopause.

The three days that followed made Ziro the best place to be for anyone who wanted to explore new artists as well as the favorites. While the Danyii folk stage was an idyllic home for singer-songwriters such as Prateek Kuhad and Taba Chake and folk artists including Manipur’s Guru Rewben Mashangva and Kharbi singer Warklung. Over at the Piilo mainstage, the party never stopped. From electronica act Tankbund’s trip hop to Kolkata pop rock band The Ganesh Talkies’ dance rock set and Delhi alt rockers Yesterdrive’s homecoming album launch, there was never a shortage of music you could jump around to. Headliners such as Delhi garage rock act The Superfuzz, reggae group The Ska Vengers, Kolkata rockers The Supersonics and Mumbai rock band Indus Creed turned it up to 11, while newer bands from the North East, such as Nagaland indie rockers We The Giants and Aizawl hard rock band Freddy’s Nightmare made the most of a big-sounding stage.
