Play DMF’s Next Single to Reportedly Feature Selena Gomez
Indian label’s founder Anshul Garg is also said to pump in around ₹70 crore for another ‘big international artist’
Music producer Anshul Garg from record label Play DMF is making big moves to put Indian music on the map. An anonymous source says the entrepreneur is calling on pop star Selena Gomez for the label’s next song, with another international collaborative project being bankrolled to the tune of nearly ₹70 crore, pegged as “the most expensive song to have ever been produced in Indian music.”
Play DMF and Garg have been behind songs like “Yimmy Yimmy” featuring French singer Tayc, “Guli Mata” with Moroccan artist Saad Lamjarred and “Zaalima” with Arabic singer Dystinct in the past. Indian singing star Shreya Ghoshal was tapped for all of these projects, singing on “Zaalima,” “Yimmy Yimmy” and “Guli Mata.”
After the rumored project with Gomez, Play DMF’s next release may feature another big international artist as collaborator, who has reportedly quoted ₹50 crore as “his” fees. A press briefing adds, “With the level of the artist, the whole production of the song might climb north to Rs 10-20 crores, taking the whole budget over Rs 60-70 crores, which will make it the most expensive song to have ever been produced in Indian music.”
Garg previously told Rolling Stone India about his strategy with Play DMF, “I think every six months, you have to put up something different, people are gonna get bored of one kind of music very quickly. So it’s become a little difficult, tricky also, but for us, moving to the international market has helped.”
