Dimapur-based pop rock band Polar Lights, formed in early 2013, has had a tumultuous first year to say the least. After a six-month hiatus earlier this year, the band, comprising siblings Mar and Temjen Jamir on vocals and guitar, decided to part ways with drummer Vitz Zhimo and bassist Sunep Tzudier. Says Mar of the band’s beginning, “Zhimo came to me last year and we thought we’d do some shows and maybe release a track. After that, things just took off. We had some creative differences [later on].”
News of the band’s shrunken lineup is disconcerting considering Polar Lights showed a lot of promise with singles such as “Parade” in September and “A Murder Machine.”  But Mar and Temjen have redesigned Polar Lights to focus on music created by the two of them and are already working on new material. Their first track “Bleed Out Loud,” has been a work in progress for the last three months and features guest drummer Mipon Ger. Says Mar, “The song is about us coming back and taking a stand on what we believe is the right track for the band.”
Polar Lights are currently working on their yet-to-be-titled debut EP, which is slated to release in January next year.
