Porcupine Tree Reunite, Announce New Album ‘Closure / Continuation’

The British prog veterans release “Harridan,” their first new song in 12 years

Porcupine Tree will release their new album Closure / Continuation, their first since 2009’s The Incident on June 24th, 2022. The stalwart British prog band kicked things off with their pulsating single “Harridan,” marking a release after 12 years.

The band’s frontman and founder Steven Wilson and drummer Gavin Harrison built up three days of teasing fans with cryptic videos on social media, leading up to the news of a new album, the first explosive song “Harridan” and a tour of U.K. and Europe starting October 2022. A tour through the Americas and Canada will be announced early next year, a statement on social media said. The band currently features Wilson, Harrison and keyboardist Richard Barbieri.

Although members of the band dispersed soon after touring The Incident in and around 2012, Porcupine Tree described the seven-track Closure / Continuation as an album that’s been 12 years in the making. Steven Wilson, who shifted his focus to solo material soon after The Incident and began his journey from prog auteur to funk-pop shapeshifting artistry over the last decade, also spoke about the making of Closure / Continuation on Instagram.

He said, “’Harridan’ and a few of the other new songs have been in play since shortly after the release of The Incident. They initially lived on a hard drive in a slowly growing computer file marked PT2012, later renamed PT2015, PT2018, and so on. There were times when we even forgot they were there, and times when they nagged us to finish them to see where they would take us. Listening to the finished pieces, it was clear that this wasn’t like any of our work outside of the band – the combined DNA of the people behind the music meant these tracks were forming what was undeniably, unmistakably, obviously a Porcupine Tree record.”

Porcupine Tree’s 11th album will be released via Music For Nations, owned by Sony Music.
