Postal Service Auditions Reimagined in New Clip

Moby, Tom Delonge and 'Weird Al' try out for the electronic band

Published by

Ben Gibbard has been the voice of the Postal Service for 10 years, but what if he hadn’t gotten the gig? Funny or Die goes inside the audition room with Jimmy Tamborello and an overbearing Sub Pop executive for a look at some of the other musicians who tried out for the group: Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagan, Blink-182’s Tom DeLonge, Aimee Mann, “Weird Al” Yankovic (with accordion) and Moby, who lets loose with a full-on freakout.

Finally, Gibbard gets his chance, singing over one of Tamborello’s tracks. The exec leans over and asks Tamborello, “That was crap, right? You sure you don’t want to go with the accordion guy?”

The Postal Service will mark a decade together with a re-release in April of their sole album, Give Up, and an expanding reunion tour that now begins April 9th in Reno, Nevada, and stretches across North America before wrapping up August 2nd in St. Paul, Minnesota.
