The pop artist also recently dropped a new song, ‘Desert Soul,’ influenced by his Rajasthani roots
Mumbai singer-songwriter and producer Prateek Gandhi’s calming, journeying love song “Mashoor Banegi” – released in 2022 – came at a time when the artist had just recently begun a partnership with Wynk Studio, the platform started by the music platform Wynk.
Just over two years on, it’s now crossed the 1 crore (10 million) listens on Wynk, allowing Gandhi the chance to look back at the project as well as his latest single, “Desert Soul.” Gandhi calls it an “incredible feeling” to have a song like “Mashoor Banegi” – written by Ritika Chawla – set a record of sorts for the artist. “It’s a validation of my creativity and hard work, knowing that my music has resonated with a large audience,” he says.
Of course, it helps that a platform as large and long-standing as Wynk and its arm Wynk Studio are behind independent artists like Gandhi. Like a few other platforms having an enthusiastic outreach program for artists, Wynk Studio too carries out nationwide workshops and sessions to engage with independent artists, even beatmakers. Through the platform, they say that artists have found more discoverability and ways to monetize music, also placing songs into their curated playlists to amplify artists’ reach.
“Mashoor Banegi” was Gandhi’s third release via Wynk Sudio, following songs like “Rabba Ve” and “Apna Bana Lun.” Seeing an increasing success in terms of how each song was received, Gandhi says he was confident that “Mashoor Banegi” would “weave its own magic” as well. He adds, “Featuring a music video with [actors] Sai Ketan Rao and Shivangi Khedker, the song held a promise within its title, hinting at the fame it was destined for.”
Gandhi says it was more than just about the numbers with “Mashoor Banegi,” though. There were plenty of messages, a growing fanbase and appreciation from across the country. “It’s a beautiful thing when music not only reaches ears but also touches hearts, and it seems like ‘Mashhoor Banegi’ has done just that,” the artist adds.
It helps draw more ears (and eyeballs) to his newer singles, like “Desert Soul,” which blends Rajasthani folk with electronic and pop elements, nodding to Gandhi’s Rajasthani roots. The artist says the song depicts a “mystical tale of two souls bound by destiny and reincarnation.” They seek each other in the present, marking longing and anticipation as they’re being guided by “an unseen force,” as Gandhi explains. He adds, “It’s an enchanting ode to love, destiny, and the timeless allure of the desert’s mysteries”
With the release of “Desert Soul” and the success of “Mashoor Banegi,” Gandhi is incorporating “significant changes” to his career in 2024. He says, “I have several releases in the pipeline, and I’ve already shot four music videos.”
