Prateek Kuhad Dreams Away in ‘Just A Word’ Video
The pop song is part of his upcoming album ‘The Way That Lovers Do,’ out May 20th
Prateek Kuhad goes pop on his latest single “Just A Word,” after years of primarily being known as a folksy singer-songwriter whose weapon of choice was an acoustic guitar. The soothing song arrives with a music video that sees Kuhad as a protagonist after long and also marks the announcement of his second full-length album The Way That Lovers Do, releasing on May 20th via Elektra Records.
Kuhad said in a statement about the song, “I wanted to write something that was a bit more pop for fun, compared to my older, folksier stuff.” Among the 11 tracks off The Way That Lovers Do, “Just A Word” is Kuhad’s paciest song, unraveling a wholly different vocal cadence from the artist best known for songs like “Cold/Mess,” “Kasoor” and “Tum Jab Paas.” The newest lot of songs were recorded at Bear Creek Studios in Seattle with producer Ryan Hadlock, best known for his work with indie/folk favorites The Lumineers’ self-titled album (2012) and singer-songwriter Vance Joy’s Dream Your Life Away (2014). The singer-songwriter added about the album, “Being at Bear Creek and working quite solitary, I worked with a lot of sounds and production techniques that were new for me. This record feels like the most ‘me’ in that sense – it really is exactly what I wanted to do.”
In the music video directed by Alex Di Marco, Kuhad and his on-screen partner – portrayed by actor Alena Savostikova – escape to a befittingly magical world on their cozy bed. The singer-songwriter sings (as he navigates their bed through the skies) about a complicated kind of love, waiting for a response from his partner.
The Way That Lovers Do follows Kuhad’s debut on Elektra Records, the Hindi EP Shehron Ke Raaz from 2021. While a short India tour took place in December, Kuhad’s next show is a headline set at Bacardi NH7 Weekender in Pune, which takes place on March 26th and 27th. In June, Kuhad will embark on a nonstop summer tour of North America throughout June, then a performance at Let’s Get Fr.ee festival in Queens, New York in August, followed by a tour through Europe (including the U.K.) in September and October.
