In the world of Austin duo Me nd Adam, one of the most challenging hurdles to overcome these days might be the quarantine hangover. It’s about as 2020 as it gets, but vocalist Adam Walker and producer Vince Winik are sending a pep talk out to anyone who needs it with their latest single “Something Better.”

Tumultuously meeting in New Orleans and at first not even getting along, the musicians finally moved base to Austin last year and already have a couple of big numbers to their name — 2016’s glimmering “Foolish Lover” and the wavy pop electronic track “Heartbreak Kid,” which released late in 2019. Take the latter and you’ll know there’s similar references to drinking made on the bright, EDM-flavored “Something Better,” on which Walker’s vocals cut through emphatically.

The duo explain the song’s intent in a statement, “You keep waking up every morning hungover and telling yourself you gotta get your shit together but the next thing you know you’re back on the wagon, boozin’ again. You might be self-aware enough to know it’s no good, but you’re too lazy or messed up to actually do anything about it.”

With influences that range from country veteran Willie Nelson to global party-starters such as Marshmello, the anthemic “Something Better” follows “Lonely Always, CA” and “Heartbreak Kid,” all off their debut album American Drip Part I, slated to release later this year.

Stream “Something Better” below. The song is out on all platforms on September 18th. Pre-save here.
