The intimate tune is the singer-songwriter's second release, out on record label Akashik

Chennai-based artist Laya in a still from '3AM'
Chennai-based singer-songwriter Laya overcomes writer’s block in the smoothest way possible in the video for “3AM,” her second single released via Akashik.
In the video directed by rapper-songwriter Lady Kash and shot by Arun Mily, Laya is seen taking control of her creative process, even invoking a reference to erstwhile American R&B group TLC with sublime choreography. “I loved and lived every written word. I broke my own barriers by expanding my comfort zone in both the musical genre and style of dance,” she says.
Interestingly, Laya says it took about a year to put the entire song and video together. Produced by Edward Sanders aka PoetED of SoulCre8tive, the audio brings together silken R&B as Laya recalls an intimate encounter. The video, on the other hand, was filmed in Puducherry within 24 hours, which Laya counts as a new personal record.
Lady Kash, assuming the role of a guide, music supervisor and key collaborator for Laya (and also running the label Akashik), says that she sees great strides from the young artist. “Today, even though she is still learning, she has already worked on and put out the video to her very first R&B single and that takes courage. It’s got beautiful old school vibes and I absolutely love it. I’m proud of her for stepping up, pushing the limits of her comfort zone and being willing to grow as an artist,” Lady Kash says.
