The Hyderabad artist teams up with producer Jonathan Edward for a comedic new R&B/pop track
Continuing her fun and introspective take on life as we know it, Hyderabad singer-songwriter Peekay aka Pranati Khanna teams up once again with producer Jonathan Edward for her latest single “You Don’t Have To.”
Among the topics in her line of firing are insecure partners and the cliched second chances offered in relationships. She says in a statement, “Their insecurity is a result of their own past wrong-doings and eventual guilt. Thus, the relationship turns both partners into puppets where they’re constantly pulling on each other’s strings, faking their emotions and practicing every move they make so no one gets hurt.”
The artist builds up her visual aesthetic like never before for the fun-loving song, with a music video directed by Hari Charan from Couch Potato Productions. Regarding the bright pink hues and dollhouse-like aesthetic of “You Don’t Have To,” Khanna confesses she was “obsessed with Barbie” as a child.
She put together her skills in design strategy and marketing to tell a story “using my old obsession as inspiration.” She adds, “’You Don’t Have To’ as a song and a concept is about plastic worlds, relationships and insecurities between people who are functionalists […] We had a blast shooting it. The movements are humorous and puppet-like so Eddy and I enjoyed ourselves!”
“You Don’t Have To” is Peekay’s fourth single as an independent artist, following three song releases in 2020 – “Good, Old Fashioned In Love,” “Dunno” and “Much Better.”
