The Chennai-based Tamil rapper teams up with the producer crew SuppLiers for his new EP ‘Lord Poetry’

In hip-hop, introductions are everything. And rappers are never ones to turn away from the trope of the intro song, like we hear with Chennai rapper San T’s “My Name Is,” off his new EP Lord Poetry.

With a flashy music video that puts him in the spotlight as a rigorous songwriter and resolute rapper, “My Name Is” follows the song “Attendance” from the six-track Lord Poetry, produced by the crew SuppLiers. While “Attendance” grabs your attention by setting the scene for a school roll call that includes San T name-checking rap greats like J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar – who are all of course, absent – the Tamil artist steps up to the plate with “My Name Is.”

Lord Poetry is based around concepts that delve on San T’s alter egos and in “My Name Is,” the rapper explains and familiarizes himself to listeners, even as he’s seemingly accused of murder. Weaving in a bit of English into his Tamil bars, San T runs riot over menacing, urgent production from SuppLiers, with the video – directed by Y – placing him at the top of the game.

San T said in a statement about Lord Poetry, which released via KYN Records, “The EP is a storytelling journey that starts with my introduction and ends with a powerful song that needs no introduction. Throughout the album, me and my alter egos express ourselves and our thoughts, making it a deeply personal and introspective project.”

Rapper San T aka Santhosh Murugan is originally from Tiruvannamalai and part of the Thara Local Pasanga crew formed by MC Valluvar and has been rapping since before 2018. In 2022, San T gained more listenership with his song “Make Way,” which was preceded by his 2021 debut album Naan Kaththukitta Hiphop.
