Premiere: Singer Ami Mishra’s Alt-Rock Turn on New Track ‘Rone Do’

Earlier this year in February, singer and composer Ami Mishra took the leap into releasing his music outside of contributing to Bollywood with “Jao Hi Na Tum.” To round up 2020, he’s now churned out a rock-informed ode to heartbreak called “Rone Do.” 

Mandla-born and Indore-based Mishra — who has been on the rise in the film music world for the last five years — sang and wrote for Bollywood movies including Hamari Adhuri Kahaani [“Hasi,” in 2015] and Half Girlfriend [“Lost Without You,” in 2017]. The artist is certainly drawn to writing about love gained and lost, as is evident even with his solo repertoire so far. He says, “I guess heartbreak songs work very well all over the world and not just in India as it’s a universal expression and relatable to most of the audience.” 

Mishra wrote “Rone Do” in 2013, breaking away from what he calls a sonic “soft zone.” He adds, “‘Rone Do’ is an alternative rock track which makes it completely different from all my previously released tracks. We’ve tried to produce the song thrice, but didn’t feel that we’d achieved our goal 100 percent.” The guitarist in him took centerstage with this song, which led to the final iteration. “Alternative rock is one my favorite genres so I wanted to keep the production this way,” he adds. 

In the music video directed in Ahmedabad by local filmmaker Sumeet C. Khanwani, actors Ansh Bagri and Riya Subodh portray roles of two lovers who overcome their upheavals to let better sense prevail. Mishra says that up next, he has another “non-film song” coming up as well as three solo releases. “There are a few tracks locked in [for] Bollywood also, which I can’t reveal right now,” he says.
