Purva Mantri’s ‘Rumjhum’ Is the Navratri Stomper of the Season

The pop artist is performing at the nine-day festival celebrations in Surat this week

As Navratri kicks off with garba and dandiya nights across the country to coincide with the festival, Purva Mantri’s latest Gujarati song “Rumjhum” is bound to be a staple that’s arrived just in time.

Driven by Mantri’s high-energy vocals, the song is composed, produced and arranged by Kushal Chokshi, who gives it a modern, stomping sense of rhythm. While primarily in Gujarati, there’s a smattering of Hindi in the song that rallies for togetherness and movement, featuring lyrics written by Munaf Luhar.

The typically grand drums and percussion are credited to the “live rhythm” section comprising Bipin Solanki, Ravi Chavda and their team and a big draw for anyone just tuning in to “Rumjhum” as a general listener is the Gujarati folk-driven banjo leads by Nikul Vaishnav.

A note provided with the song mentions, “‘Rumjhum’ describes the garba festivities of Gujarat, where garba is like life, it always comes full circle. If you are not dancing all night, you are not doing it right.”

Mantri adds in a statement, “The song will move you to the beats of garba, it’s a one-of-its-kind composition, sung in Gujarati, that I am releasing and I am excited to share the brand new song with my fans!”

The song follows Mantri’s Punjabi pop and hip-hop informed single “Vaar Vaar” and comes just as the singer takes to the stage at the Suvarn Navratri event in Suraj, which runs from October 15th to October 24th. The annual event pegs itself as #GujjusTomorrowland, to reference the scale and celebratory atmosphere of the Belgium EDM mainstay festival.
