The Punjabi pop artist and hip-hop singer-songwriter join forces to emerge empowered from heartbreak
Synthwave meets Punjabi pop and emphatic hip-hop on vocalist-composer Raashi Sood and singer-songwriter Raja Kumari’s new collaboration “Out of Love.” The Punjabi and English song, produced by Hiten, has been released via Big Bang Music, with a shiny music video showcasing both artists displaying resolve in the aftermath of a failed relationship.
Sood, who has previously released songs like “Sorry Sorry” and “Mil Mahiya” via Big Bang Music, takes another step forward into the male-dominated world of modern Punjabi music with “Out of Love.” A schoolteacher and musician, Sood has previously collaborated with Los Angeles/Mumbai producer Iconyk aka Nikhil Malik and Indo-Canadian singer-songwriter The PropheC aka Nealveer Chatha.
The singer-composer hails her latest collaborator, Kumari, as a “trailblazer.” Sood says in a statement, “While the sound is energetic and peppy, we’ve tried to convey feelings of heartbreak, longing and love throughout the track.”
Kumari, who is currently shuttling between India and the U.S., released “Out of Love” as her first song after her independent EP HBIC earlier this year. She says in her statement, “When I first heard the record, I fell in love with the melody, the lyrics and the emotion. After I found out that Raashi is a schoolteacher by day and a pop star by night, I was so inspired to do the song! When we went into the studio, we just vibed on the record and really made it something special. I think this shows a softer side of me, a different side of me and I just hope that everyone enjoys what we’ve made. For me, it’s the song of the summer.”
