Industrial metal group's first U.S. performance in a decade centerpiece of 2-DVD set
Rammstein’s 2010 performance at New York’s Madison Square Garden, the German industrial-rock group’s first U.S. concert in over a decade, will be the centerpiece of a new documentary titled Rammstein in Amerika. In addition to the two-hour film, the 2-DVD set will also feature the band’s concert film Live From Madison Square Garden, which captures all 18 songs from that November 12, 2010 gig with 14 high-definition cameras and 5.1 surround sound. The In Amerika/Live From Madison Square set will arrive September 25th.
In Amerika will boast two hours of never-before-seen footage culled from Rammstein’s two-decades-old personal archives. The documentary charts the band’s journey from Iron Curtain-era East Germany to their late-Nineties success in America, which culminated with an invite to work on David Lynch’s Lost Highway and the arrest of frontman Till Lindemann and keyboardist Christian “Flake” Lorenz in 1999 for simulating sodomy during a Massachusetts concert.
“When I’m traveling for customs, I still have do interviews and explain myself for why I got arrested and why I have probation,” Lindemann told Rolling Stone in June. “It never goes away. So for the rest of my life, as soon as I enter American ground, I have to go to the interview. I tried to get this thing out of my file with some lawyers but it’s impossible. ‘Indecent exposure.'”
After the events of September 11, 2001, Rammstein retreated from America for nearly a decade until the Madison Square Garden show. In addition to the unearthed archival footage, In Amerika also features interviews with Marilyn Manson, Iggy Pop, Steven Tyler, Korn’s Jonathan Davis, Anthrax’s Scott Ian, Moby, System of a Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith and many more.
The 2-DVD or 2-Blu-ray set will also house the 20-minute Making Of Liebe ist für alle da, a short documentary about Rammstein’s 2008 recording sessions in Sonoma, California for their sixth LP.
