The Punjabi artist’s debut hip-hop album includes up to 25 collaborators across 12 tracks, including Farhan Khan, Reble and Tracy De Sa, plus producers like Gurbax, NDS, Hashbass and Stunnah Beatz
Mumbai-based artist Rashmeet Kaur’s debut hip-hop album KAURA – slated to release on January 11th – brings together some of the biggest names in Indian music and the recently revealed tracklist proves just that.
Hip-hop artists like Seedhe Maut, Tamil artist Arivu, Punjabi artists like Fateh, Simiran Kaur Dhadli and GD 47, Muhfaad, Mumbai-based rapper Farhan Khan, Shillong-origin Reble and Indian-origin France-based Tracy De Sa all appear on the 12-track KAURA. They join the likes of artists already revealed with singles off KAURA, including Munawar Faruqui on “Pyaar Ki Bahaar,” Ikka on “Haye Ri Duniya,” Wazir Patar on “Udd Jana.”
Producers aiding Kaur on the album include Saurabh Lokhande (credited on three tracks), Rusha & Blizza (on “Haye Ri Duniya”), Stunnah Beatz (on the already-released “Udd Jana”). New additions on KAURA include DJ-producer Gurbax, plus artists like Vishal Dixit and Mr. Doss, Hashbass, NDS, C-Mart (who worked on Kaur’s Afrobeats single “Cherie Coco” earlier this year) and Karonik. An interlude called “Chalo” also features beatboxer Divyansh Kacholia aka DVK.
Through collaborations, Kaur has said in the past that she wants to build a community. She told Rolling Stone India in our cover story interview last month, “As an artist, it’s a responsibility that you build your community; you bring everybody together and try to deliver something together, rather than just doing your own thing… Everybody is pretty much doing their own thing.”
Seedhe Maut’s first release of the year comes with Kaur on “Mehenga.” Kaur had said earlier about the song, “Once they saw that the idea was unusual, they also felt they should also try something different.”
Kaur is launching KAURA with listening sessions in three cities where the album will be played in full ahead of its release on January 11th. Kaur hosts the previews in New Delhi on January 6th, followed by Chandigarh on January 7th, followed by a Mumbai session on January 8th. The KAURA listening sessions involved pre-registrations and allows Kaur to share the album with dedicated fans in an intimate setting.
