Singer and music label founder Ravi has recruited labelmate Whee In’s euphonious vocals on his latest release, “Bye.” The single marks the Vixx member’s fourth project of the year and comes roughly two months following the release of his EP Dessert Tape.

Co-written and co-composed by Ravi, “Bye” is a summery dance anthem with a rather tragic story to tell. Taking the tough yet essential decision of walking away from a promising love affair, the lyrics narrate the tale of a relationship stunned by the venom of toxicity: “Today I leave you/ I leave you/ Don’t wanna get hurt anymore/ By your harsh words.” Though a large chunk of the track traces the scars left behind, there’s a lingering sense of liberation and exhaustion from enduring unthinkable amounts of trauma. This perplexing emotion comes out beautifully in the bridge as Ravi sings, “Even if the seasons pass many times/ I don’t miss you or resent you/ I don’t have the strength to be in pain anymore.”

The whimsical lyrical video melds various pop-art elements, creating a dreamy landscape. Displaying lyrics in both Korean and English, the visuals embody a few dynamic elements such as a pink heart floating in front of an astronaut, daisies and the leaves of a palm tree blissfully swaying on the side, all of which constitute the video’s serene appeal.

The year 2022 has been a busy one for Ravi. Having released two EPs, Love and Fight and Dessert Tape with artist Xydo, and a single, “Who We Are,” he shows no signs of stopping. On the other hand, Whee In, who recently signed with Ravi’s label The L1ve, has been active with her solo projects such as her January 2022 EP Whee, the special single “D-Day” released as a present to her fans on her birthday, and several OST releases.
