Bands such as Chennai’s funk rockers Franks Got The Funk have made it to the shortlist for the second year in a row. Keyboardist Vikram Ashok of Franks Got The Funk is hopeful that his band will it to the final this year. “It will be a great think for us to finally play north of Bangalore. So far we have only played in Chennai, Hyderabad or surrounding areas. Must get viral,” says Ashok.

Delhi all-girl post punk band, The Vinyl Records, whose video for the track “Ready, Set, Go” is already a YouTube hit, has made it to the final 15. “We are quite confident we will get in the finale. We have a great video, a great set-up and are waiting to win,” says the band’s drummer Mithy Tatak.

Kerala-based metal act Chaotic Years are also one of the top contenders this year. Band member Taz James, who picked up the Best Keyboardist trophy at the 2012 Rolling Stone Metal Awards says, “We are waiting to smash it at the finale in Mumbai. We haven’t played in the city for a long time and this would be a good time.”
