Of all places, Bengaluru singer-songwriter Reba Samuel – who goes by her first name – struck inspiration for her debut single “I Can’t Believe” while doing the dishes. She says, “I was reminded of God’s love and how much he longs for a relationship with us, in spite of our failings, what we say and think.” That’s when the artist decided to pen the track with lyrics pertaining to “God’s pure love.”

While the song includes R&B, pop, blues and slow rock elements, Reba classifies it as Christian contemporary music. The track opens with a beautiful piano arrangement before it builds up exquisitely with further instrumentation as well as Reba’s soulful vocals and harmonies. “’I Can’t Believe’ explores those feelings of being undeserving of love and forgiveness,” she says. Reba collaborated with drummer Ashwin Alexander, bassist Josh Victor, cellist Sruti Arthur and guitarist-pianist Shobith John on the song. The singer-songwriter also roped in producer Jitish Antin for the track while Bengaluru prog metal band Pineapple Express’ Yogeendra Hariprasad mixed and mastered it.

Not only is “I Can’t Believe” Reba’s debut offering, but it’s also the first single off her forthcoming five-track EP Our Place. Talking about the record, she says, “People can expect songs that are about God but don’t seem to be. I long for the music to be something that anyone from any background can listen to.” She adds, “It isn’t strictly for just Christian audiences, but for all; as I believe that the themes covered in this EP are things that people from all walks of life go through. I honestly share the struggles of going through the uncertainties of life and how I need a Savior to help get me through.”
