Rebecca Black Plans Follow Up to ‘Friday’

Viral pop star will release ‘My Moment’ next week

Jul 12, 2011

Rebecca Black will be following up the massive success of her viral pop hit “Friday” with a new single called “My Moment,” which will be released at 8 p.m. ET on YouTube and the 14-year-old singer’s official website. The song, which was co-written by Justin Bieber collaborator Brandon “Blue” Hamilton, will be accompanied by a music video in which Black dramatizes her sudden rise to fame. “My Moment” will also appear on a five-track EP that Black will release on her own label in August.

When Black’s music video for “Friday” hit the internet in March, it quickly became a social media phenomonon, attracting over 167 million page views and mainstream media attention mainly as the subject of widespread ridicule. (“Friday” recently surpassed Justin Bieber’s clip for “Baby” as the most-watched YouTube video of all time.) Nevertheless, the track has sold very well on iTunes and has been covered by everyone from Stephen Colbert and the Jonas Brothers to the cast of Glee and Katy Perry, who recruited the teen star to appear in the video for her latest single “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”
