It’s that time of the year again, when “Best Of” and “Top Ten” lists take charge and recap the year that was; Independent record label Transcending Obscurity, whose founder Kunal Choksi has been on a signing spree this past year, is making sure that metal has its own place in the annual roundup trend with its first metal compilation. Thesampler will include over 50 independent metal bands that have been signed onto the TO record label.

Currently, the label sampler includes 53 bands and counting, some of which include Mumbai-based horror metal act Albatross, Aizawl death metallers Third Sovereign, Chicago doom metal act Drug Honkey and Swedish atmospheric metal Seedna, among others. Available in digital format, the TOsampler will begin streaming on December 25th along with high-quality downloads.

Unlike other independent compilations however [such as record label ennui.BOMB’s annual Stupiditties round-up], the TO sampler will international bands as well, those exclusively signed on to the label. “There will be Indian bands and international bands merging on this one compilation,” says Choksi of the sampler, which he will put together as an annual Christmas special. He adds, “I have picked one track [for each band] which is the most representative of their sound, since many people might be hearing the band for the first time.”

The Transcending Obscurity label sampler will be available for streaming and download December 25th, 2015 onwards. Click here for more details.
