The Guwahati metal band make their debut in Mumbai at the fourth edition of RSMA

For their first gig outside their home town, Guwahati metal band Rectified Spirit has already convened to get preparing for their opening set at the Rolling Stone Metal Awards 2013 on June 23rd. The band joins thrash metal band Devoid and black metallers 1833 AD as part of the lineup, all three of whom are also nominated.
Although hard to pin down, founding member and guitarist Samudragupta Dutta calls Rectified Spirit “libero metal,” explaining, “it’s an attitude more than a genre, where we’re liberated from genres and labels.” Dutta, who formed the band in 2005 with bassist Himangshu Borah, has been through it all ”“ struggling for funds and having a setlist full of songs, but never permanent band members to perform them. Says Dutta, “We disbanded in 2009, since our band members weren’t really committed at that time, but we got back together with a whole new lineup in 2011.” Part of their new lineup is drummer Nishant Hagjer [he also plays for groove metal band Undying Inc.], who is nominated in the best drummer category.
Additionally, Rectified Spirit has two other RSMA nominations this year, including best vocalist and best bassist for their self-titled debut album, Rectified Spirit. The band’s half hour set will include songs such as  “Bloodrush,” “To Hold A Sabre,” and “Rectified Spirit” from their 10-track album.
The band has already started work on some new material for their second album, but Dutta says the next few weeks are only reserved for jamming. “We’re totally focused on the gig, and songwriting needs a different approach, so we’re putting that off for now,” says Dutta. For drummer Hagjer, RSMA is not about winning, it’s more about breaking out of Guwahati to play to the Mumbai metal crowd. “It’s going to be completely crazy, we’re expecting a lot,” says Hagjer.
