RED VELVET Makes A Sterling Comeback With ‘Feel My Rhythm’

The single leads the group's Spring mini-album 'The ReVe Festival 2022 – Feel My Rhythm'

Blending the sophistication of classical music with the pulsating energy of trap beats, K-pop hitmakers RED VELVET makes a spell-binding comeback with “Feel My Rhythm.” Leading the quintet’s seventh Korean EP The ReVe Festival 2022 – Feel My Rhythm, the latest release follows their Summer 2021 EP Queendom.

Produced by Maria Marcus, Andreas Öberg and MCK and Jake K from the music production company, ARTiffectt, “Feel My Rhythm” fuses Sebastian Bach’s “Air On The G String” with trap beats, fashioning an earworming dance-pop melody that hasn’t been heard in a while. Notably different from the bubblegum pop concept employed in the 2021 single “Queendom,” the latest release showcases a sonically poised and mature persona of the members while spotlighting their vocal and conceptual expertise.

The track’s arrangement creates ample breathing space, allowing the polarizing genres to thrive without overpowering one another. In fact, the transition from the delicate classical string melody to the intense trap atmosphere seems almost natural, further enhancing the aural experience. For long-time fans of the quintet (or anyone who saw “Psycho” reach new viral heights three years back), “Feel My Rhythm” also tastefully seeds in sonic reminisces of the 2019 release.

Written by Seo Ji-eum, MCK, Maria Marcus, Jake K and Andreas Öberg, the single expresses how one finds freedom in following their heart- “Follow, follow my heartbeat/ Until the sun rises/ Feel my rhythm, please don’t stop/ Don’t let go of this moment, baby.” With dulcet, breathy vocalizations and rich falsettos to back their socially mature persona, RED VELVET weaves a dreamy, almost fantasy-like atmosphere, elevating the mood of the Spring release.

Brimming with a warm, delicate color palette with a dash of vintage charm, the music video immediately rears you into its artistic universe. Similar to its classical music inspiration, the music video of  “Feel My Rhythm” employs an opera-led format to pay tribute to several notable artists and their artworks, such as Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch’s ‘The Garden of Earthly Delights.’ Other notable references come from the artworks by English painter John Everett Millais and and French painter Oscar-Claude Monet. If you fancy yourself as an admirer of fine art, the music video will certainly present itself as a goldmine rich in music and art motifs.

Crunching in 516,866 album units as of March 20, RED VELVET’S The ReVe Festival 2022 – Feel My Rhythm, marked the group’s highest pre-order to date. The six-track EP comprises additional tracks like the R&B-dance pop tracks “Rainbow Halo” and “Beg for Me” alongside the retro dance-pop anthem “Bamboleo”, “Good, Bad, Ugly” (mid-tempo R&B) and the R&B ballad “In My Dreams.”
