Red Velvet To Make A Comeback This March
The South Korean quintet’s label, SM Entertainment, confirmed the news earlier today
Following their sixth Korean EP, Queendom, SM Entertainment’s Red Velvet are all set to return with new music. Confirmed by the entertainment giant earlier today, the K-pop quintet are currently targeting a March comeback.
“Red Velvet is preparing a new album with the goal of a release in March,” reads SM Entertainment’s press statement. “We ask that you please show a lot of interest.” The confirmation comes roughly six months after the release of their August 2021 EP Queendom. Lead by the title track of the same name, the six-track EP boasted a variety of genres ranging from dance-pop, R&B, soul and ballad. B-side tracks such as “Pose,” “Knock On Wood,” “Better Be,” “Pushin N’ Pullin” and “Hello, Sunset” showcased the group’s musical versatility and genre-blending approach.
The EP’s lead single, “Queendom” offered listeners strength with its empowering thematic “We are Queens in the red castle/ Don’t need crown, we were born to dazzle.” While summer songs usually steer closer to themes of love, Red Velvet shifted the narrative, focusing the spotlight on the co-existence of sisterhood and individuality.
The track’s reception reflected in its commercial success with “Queendom” entering South Korea’s top 10 charts, becoming the group’s 13th track to achieve this accord. Overseas, the single was their 17th top 10 entry on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales, and their first entry on the Billboard Global 200, landing at the 96th spot.
