Reeve Carney Lands Role as Jeff Buckley

‘Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark’ star will play late singer in film by Jake Scott

Aug 17, 2011

Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark star Reeve Carney has landed the role of Jeff Buckley in an as-yet untitled biopic about the late singer based upon Rolling Stone writer David Browne’s 2000 book Dream Brother: The Lives and Music of Jeff and Tim Buckley. The film, which will be directed by music video director and film maker Jake Scott, is scheduled to begin shooting in November.

Unlike two other Jeff Buckley films in the works, this Jake Scott project is fully sanctioned by the singer’s mother, Mary Guibert, and will have full rights to Buckley’s music. Another film in the works, Greetings From Tim Buckley, will feature Gossip Girl actor Penn Badgely as the singer in a story loosely based on his big break at a concert honoring his folk icon father Tim Buckley. A third picture, A Pure Drop, is being developed by Australian filmmaker Brendan Fletcher. Though no release dates have been set, all three movies are set to begin production soon and will likely all hit theaters in 2012.
