One of the least-recognized returns of 2013 came from Mumbai hardcore/prog metal band Reverrse Polarity, who released their self-titled debut album in September last year. Eight months on, the band is playing their second gig ever since the September 2013 launch, at the Rolling Stone Metal Awards on June 22nd at Blue Frog, Mumbai.
The band’s guitarist Shikhar Manchanda says the gigs have been difficult to come by mostly because people still aren’t aware of the band’s return in 2012, a year after their drummer and founding member Jonathan Fernandes passed away. Says Manchanda, “Most people don’t even know we’ve got back together and have an album out.” The band recruited new drummer Gautam Deb [from experimental metal band Noiseware] in 2012 and went into the studio with producer Keshav Dhar [guitarist from prog metal band Skyharbor] to record their 10-track full-length album. Says Manchanda, “We just went a bit crazy and added a lot of guitar layers to it and then realized we needed another guy on board to play it live.” In March last year, the band roped in guitarist Sameer Suri and already started writing new material, while they waited to release Reverrse Polarity. Says Manchanda about new material, “It’s a little more groovy, a little heavier.”
Reverrse Polarity are nominated in four categories at the Rolling Stone Metal Awards this year, including Best Band, Best Album and Best Song. Reverrse Polarity joins Aizawl-based death metal band Third Sovereign at the fifth edition of RSMA and are currently planning their setlist. Says Manchanda, “We’ve been contemplating on playing a bunch of covers with a few vocalist friends. We’re still trying to figure out, but we’ll play at least 80 percent of the album, including stuff like ”˜R.A.R.’ and ”˜Jaegerbombs’.”
Reverrse Polarity plays at Rolling Stone Metal Awards on June 22nd, 2014 at Blue Frog, Mumbai. Entry: TBA. Event details here. Vote for the top bands to win at RSMA 2014 in the Best Band, Best Song and Best Album category.
