Ricky Kej, Annette Philip, Berklee Indian Ensemble and More Set for Art Is Life: SoundFrames Digital Festival
The three-day virtual event will also host artists like Bindu and Ambi Subramaniam and Penn Masala, among others
Bengaluru’s Museum of Art & Photography (MAP) has teamed up with Berklee College of Music in Boston to curate and produce a three-day digital festival called Art Is Life: SoundFrames, taking place between December 3rd and 5th online.
Performances recorded for the three-day event include Grammy-winning composer Ricky Kej (who is co-curating a piece called Bursts of Sound), the Berklee Indian Ensemble, vocalist-composer and educationist Annette Philip and her Women of the World vocal collective (Philip will also conduct a vocal masterclass), a cappella group Penn Masala, folk-rockers Kabir Café and more. Seasoned artist Rajeev Raja and his company Brand Musiq will be unpacking “sonic brand identities,” while fusion act SubraMania – violinist-composer Ambi Subramaniam and singer-songwriter Bindu Subramaniam – will also perform.
Another key highlight at Art Is Life: SoundFrames includes Sounds of the City, helmed by Boston-based Israeli producer-guitarist Yoel Genin aka Shwesmo. Four music producers around the country (Bengaluru, New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata) were selected to produce and showcase their journey in creating a soundtrack for their city, which will be presented at the festival. Classical vocalist Vidya Shah will also deliver a “chai time concert,” rendering a thumri.
This is the second edition of the festival put together by the private museum – launching in December last year with panelists ranging from Javed Akhtar to Lilette Dubey and streaming performances by Dharavi Rocks and more.
MAP director Kamini Sawhney said in a statement, “The festival celebrates the first anniversary of our digital launch which was very well received and has now become an annual event. MAP believes music as an art form is a powerful way to bring people together beyond cultures and language. The three-day online event is packed with a diverse lineup with something for everyone, whether you are 8 or 80.”
